Newsletter: Snubs, cuts and a tight end
Mountain Time Roundup is a weekly newsletter from MTSR. We give you the biggest stories in Denver sports direct to your inbox every Monday.
Happy late St. Paddy’s Day,
Welcome to our second attempt at the Mountain Time Round Up (hopefully there’s a lot less grammatical errors this time). This newsletter was definitely supposed to come out at 6 p.m. but I might have been busy building out a March Madness bracket. Make sure to read to the bottom to see who the staff of MTSR has winning it all.
This week, we’ll look at how the Broncos handled week one of free agency and who got booted from the Rockies spring training roster.
But first, with Denver set to host round one of the big dance Thursday, it’s time to talk about what’s on everyone’s mind. Soccer!

The Snub of the Century? Millennium?
Coming off the best season of his career, Colorado Rapids midfielder Djordje Mihailovic was left off the United States’ Nations League roster for their game Thursday. The snub has left many fans speechless as Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna was included even though he has struggled to get playing minutes with his club. Aramis Loma-Guzman makes a passionate case for Mihailovic here.
Mile High moves in free agency
NFL free agency started last week and the Denver Broncos kicked it off with bold moves, strengthening their defense and adding a tight end. They landed two former 49ers, safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Both are elite talents coming off injuries with hopes to return to dominant form. Sean Payton also found his “joker” in two-time Pro Bowl tight end Evan Engram, boosting the offense.
How do these moves fit into Denver’s scheme? Can these moves push the Broncos into contention? Wait, Denver has money to spend with Russell Wilson’s contract? Xavier Michnewicz has all the details.
Can Dinger make the final roster?
We are less than two weeks out from Opening Day for the Rockies. Which means the Rox have some tough choices ahead, deciding their final 26-man roster. With only 41 players left in camp, key prospects and veterans are battling for a spot.
Colby Wyatt has the latest from Arizona.
