Newsletter: Are the Avs and Broncos front office taking their teams to the promised land?
Mountain Time Roundup is a weekly newsletter from MTSR. We'll give you the biggest stories in Denver sports direct to your inbox every Monday.
Howdy Folks! Welcome to the first ever Mountain Time Roundup, a weekly newsletter from the staff of MTSR. We'll give you the biggest stories in Denver sports direct to your inbox every Monday.
Before we get started, we have hit an exciting milestone. Three months into this adventure, we published our 30th story today! Huge shoutout to writers Baylan Wysuph, Xavier Michnewwicz, Aramis Loma-Guzman, River Wilcox and Colby Wyatt for their great work. This publication would literally not exist without them.
Alright, let’s get this show on the road.
Broncos want their own Joker
At the NFL Combine, the Broncos could not have been more obvious about their plans for the Draft. They interviewed a total of 15 running backs and tight ends from the 2025 class.
Sean Payton has publicly said he wants to find someone to be the Broncos’ own Nikola Jokić and give Bo Nix the support he needs. With so many options at both positions, who sticks out? What round will the team draft them in, and could they draft more than one of each?
After watching his Peach Bowl performance against then-No. 2 Texas, I think they should draft Cam Skattebo. As a CU Buff, I also just hate Ashton Jeanty. To find out if they interviewed either, check out Colby Wyatt’s full story.
Avs front office went demon mode last week
The Avalanche made a statement at the NHL trade deadline with a flurry of bold moves to strengthen their roster. Their key addition, center Brock Nelson, signals how serious GM Chris MacFarland is to bring Lord Stanley’s Cup back to the Mile High City.
The Avs might have sacrificed their future, but is it worth it for another championship? In their four trades this deadline, what did Colorado give up? And what does it mean for their championship hopes?
Xavier Xavier Michnewwicz has the full story.
First-ever 30-20-20 triple-double
Nikola Jokić had one of the greatest nights in NBA history on Friday, helping the Nuggets beat the Phoenix Suns in overtime off a 32 point, 22 assist, and 21 rebound triple double. It is the first 30 point, 20 assist and 20 rebound night in NBA history and Jokić’s 29th triple double on the season. The second most in the NBA is LeBron James with 10. Baylan Wysuph has more on that insanity here.
