The Denver Outlaws (4-2) won their fourth game in a row on Saturday after facing the Maryland Whipsnakes (2-4). The Outlaws struggled early but gained momentum to capture the 13-6 win.
Both defenses came out sharp in the opening quarter, with the first goal coming just moments before the whistle. With 10 seconds left, Outlaws attacker Pat Kavanagh broke the tie with his 13th goal of the season. Denver swiftly found their groove in the second quarter, with scores from Jared Bernhardt, Zach Geddes and a two-point goal from Brennan O’Neil. The Whipsnakes answered by getting two back at the end of the second, but found themselves trailing 5-2 at halftime.
Logan Wisnauskas, O’Neil, Bernhardt, and Kavanagh each found the net in the third quarter, as Denver continued their rhythm into the fourth with a quartet of goals to secure the victory.
O’Neil, who’s coming off an All-Star Game MVP, led the revival on offense after a tardy first quarter. Both Kavanagh and Bernhardt scored hat tricks with one assist coming from Kavanagh.
Jake Piseno led the Outlaws’ defensive regime with four caused turnovers and six ground balls.
“Piseno is incredible,” Kavanagh said. “I don’t think he gets enough credit. I thought he had an incredible game.”
Rookie goalie Logan McNaney had another stellar performance, collecting 16 saves with a career-high 71.4% save percentage.
“What impresses me is him picking off passes,” Head Coach Tim Soudan said about McNaney. “We find ourselves as a staff looking at each other when he makes a save. He just makes it look easy.”
Denver seeks to extend their winning streak on Saturday, July 19 against the Boston Cannons. The match begins at 1 p.m. MT.
