The Colorado Rapids have traded 26- year- old winger Omir Fernandez to the Portland Timbers in exchange for $200,000 in 2025 General Allocated Money. If Fernandez achieves certain performance goals, the Rapids could receive an additional $50,000.
The winger joined the Rapids in December of 2023 to reunite with head coach Chris Armas, who spent time coaching Fernandez while with the New York Red Bulls.
Fernandez appeared in all eight games this season and assisted two goals, most recently assisting Djordje Mihailovic’s first goal against Charlotte FC. The winger has been providing a much- needed offensive spark off the bench but the emergence of Oliver Larraz and the upcoming return of Connor Ronan left the Rapids with far too many wingers.
In his time with the Rapids, Fernandez scored two goals and assisted another five scores all coming primarily off the bench.
The Rapids travel to Houston to face the Dynamo Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. MT. The game can be streamed on the MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
